Elaborating your resume with flashy graphics and fonts that are hardly legible isn’t going to get you the job. It is what the content of your cover letter says that will get you to the interview stage. The profile that you highlight in your cover letter should be honest and all-encompassing. Never before has so much information been available on anyone as it is now. Employers have a tendency to look you up and find out how much truth there is in what you state in your cover letter.
When writing a hotel porter cover letter, make sure that you provide only the information that an employer will be interested in reading. Unfocused or unwanted information threatens the wholesomeness of your cover letter. Focus your cover letter on what you can do for the employer and how you intend to make a difference by contributing effectively. Do not simply state facts – back them up with examples as much as possible.
Remember, the more eloquent you are about what you are capable of, the better you will be able to make the reader understand your suitability for his or her organization. True, it is difficult to convince a prospective employer that you are the best amongst the best. But try! Here is a sample for you to follow:

Dear Mr. Odato:
Pleasure to know, hardworking, customer service-oriented and diligent¬ are just some of the words / phrases that have been used to describe me as a professional in a hospitality environment. As a hotel porter who has had extensive experience – 7 years to be exact – in working for large hotels, I believe that I am capable of handling the influx of guests at Holiday Inn, even on the busiest of days.
Why I believe that my abilities as a hotel porter surpass your expectations, is explained here:
• Documented success in ensuring guest satisfaction and recurring business opportunities, through effective delivery of level 1 services.
• Demonstrated expertise in providing for a smooth check-in and check-out experience, enabling guests to take complete advantage of exceptional customer services.
• Hands-on experience in carefully and efficiently transporting guests’ luggage to and from the reception area, by ensuring safety and intactness of all suitcases / boxes.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I have received a constant 9 (in customer surveys) for over 3 years! This is both an accomplishment and a reflection of my exceptional work ethics. I believe that your hotel can use one more substantiated professional to represent it. I will be in touch with you for an interview soon. If you require, I can be contacted at (000) 524-5411 for further information regarding my suitability for a porter position at your hotel.
