A supply chain manager is an important part of an organization. He or she makes sure that supply chain strategies are developed and implemented.

It is also the work of a supply chain manager to ensure proper flow of goods from manufacturers to customers.

In order to work as a supply chain manager, a degree in business is required.

If you have prior experience, you will be considered a great contender for the position. But a degree and experience are not all that are required for this position. In order to do justice to the work, one has to possess a good set of skills as well.

As a supply chain manager, you will be strategizing and planning the overall program of supply chains.

In addition, your work will include determining key supply chain KPIs and collaborating with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and operations.

Working as a supply chain manager will require you to possess excellent communication skills.

Planning and analysis will be a great part of your work, which is why these skills must be excellent too.

• Work with managers in order to determine supply chain management metrics.

• Create and implement supply chain strategies.

• Work with procurement staff in order to source the right products.

• Control manufacturing and delivery processes.

• Plans and implement logistical strategies.

• Identify bottlenecks in supply chains, and suggest solutions to ensure that they do not transpire again.

• Oversee goods storage, handling, and distribution.

• Track goods from manufacturers to customers.

• Forecast supply demands, and ensure that they are met.

• Keep accurate records of all processes involved in supply chains.

• Assist logistics process in order to ensure smoothness of product delivery.

• Build relationships with departments such as customer services, operations, marketing, and sales.

• Plan delivery timetables.

• Ensure that inventory levels are at par with requirements.

• Oversee product ordering and packaging processes.

• Select appropriate transportation routes to maximize economy.

• Develop cost estimates.

• Negotiate prices and terms with manufacturers and vendors.

• Oversee the creation of supply chain processes and methods.

• Identify and address problematic areas within the supply chain.

• Design and implement supply chain optimization strategies.

• Determine cost-effective methods of shipping and moving products.

• Ensure effective lines of communication between departments, regarding product movement.

• Implement effective internal controls regarding supply chain management.

• Create and maintain records of supply chain work processes.
