What brought you into the extraordinarily vast and complicated world of information technology?
Technology has always fascinated me. And when it was time to choose a degree that would make my career, the only thing that I could think of was information technology. It has now been ten years that I have been working in this capacity, and have enjoyed every single moment of my professional life.
What makes this work worth your while?
Working in information technology means that you are in a constant state of challenge. From the littlest to the biggest ones, everything can become complicated. And it is this challenge that drives me.
What is the most difficult thing that you have had to handle while working as an information technology manager?
I have come across a fair share of complications when working as an information technology manager. In a recent event, I was tasked with finding out where information leak has arisen from, as a lot of the company information was leaked to its competitors. My system was tight. And after ensuring that each area was tightly packed, I realized that the leak came from an employee who was forwarding confidential information to the competitors. It was quite a harrowing five weeks when I was always looking for security breaches.
In your opinion, what skills does one require to be able to work as an information technology manager successfully?
Working as an information technology manager requires in-depth knowledge of IT systems, and how they can be implemented strategically. In addition to this, one needs to be well-versed in handling security issues, and possess the ability to identify problematic areas and perform troubleshooting activities. In addition to this, they need to be well-versed in assembling risk management plans, and ensuring that the security of both data and systems is kept a priority.
How do you handle the many problems associated with virus and malware?
I run a very tight ship when it comes to security. All my systems and associated data are protected profoundly, and I make sure that I keep these controls in check. When problems do arise, I leave everything and concentrate on troubleshooting it so that data is kept secure, and downtime is minimized.
What are your plans for the next three years?
As far as my professional plans are concerned, I am aiming to climb the ladder to the position of an IT specialist.
