What have been your duties while working as a tax preparer in a previous position?
I have been working as a tax preparer for 8 years, and have been actively handling a wide variety of tax management duties. This includes engaging clients in conversation to determine their tax needs, obtaining and maintaining information on taxable incomes and deductible expenses, using appropriate adjustments and deductions to ensure that clients taxes are kept to a minimum, computing taxes owed or overdue, furnishing taxpayers with information and advice to ensure correct tax form completion, creating tax returns according to policies and procedures, and filing them in an accurate and timely manner.

What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire as a tax preparer?
Apart from the fact that I possess vast experience in handling tax matters for individuals and companies, I can keep up with tax legislation as and when they are modified. In addition to this, I possess exceptional communication skills, which make it easy for me to reach out to clients to derive information. Also, I am well-versed in accurately and timely calculating tax information, and ensuring that tax returns are filed before the deadlines.

Do you find working as a tax preparer difficult?
Not at all. It is sometimes challenging, especially when the company that I have been hired at has been evading tax for long, but then it is these challenges that make professional life so much fun!

What has been the most challenging work that you have performed in this role?
I was once asked to provide tax assistance for a company where the tax returns were long overdue. Things were so bad that there was no way that the company could get out of paying tax, and the tax amount was colossal. It took all the might that I had, and all the contacts that I could find to get the authorities to agree on paying the company’s tax in installments.

What makes working as a tax preparer worth your while?
As I mentioned before, the challenges this work poses are something that I enjoy a lot. The fact that I have to think hard to make a problem go away is what makes this work worth my while.

What are your 5-year career plans?
I am looking forward to working as a tax specialist soon, and I am already aiming towards it!
