How to Prepare for an Event Coordinator Interview?

Updated on: December 25, 2020

As an event coordinator, you should be a great multitasker. And this is one of the biggest qualities employers look for during the job application process, especially during an interview.

During the course of an event coordinator interview, it is important to highlight your knowledge of handling different types of events through your mannerisms and the level of your confidence.

Coordinating events so that they are successful is not an easy thing to do.

There are many people involved and many angles that you need to coordinate, so event management often becomes a difficult task to do.

But, if you know your work well, you have nothing to worry about. What you do need to worry about is preparing for an interview so that you are perceived as a possible candidate for an event coordinator position.

Preparation does not only include practicing answering obvious questions. As an events coordinator, you will come across many instances where your mettle will be truly tested. It is up to you to show the interviewer that you have it in you to be able to handle any type of situation or challenge.

The first thing that you need to do as preparation for an event coordinator interview is to read the job description in detail. This can be especially useful if you study the job description in the advertisement that you had initially applied for. If you know what the company is looking for, you can tailor your answers to the requirement.

Handling an event is not always successful – there are times when details go awry and customers are dissatisfied. Since you will be asked many situational questions during an interview, you should be prepared for providing answers that the interviewer is expecting.

For instance, you may be asked about a particularly catastrophic experience that you have had – you should be prepared to provide details of what happened and how you handled it. The way you handled it, will be of great interest to the interviewer.

Typically interview questions for the position of an event coordinator revolve around an individual’s knowledge of coordinating small and large details of all types of events such as corporate meetings, birthday parties, wedding receptions, and even funerals.

You should be prepared to answer questions regarding the different manners in which you will handle each of these. Some common questions that you will come across are given below:

• Do you have any issues in working long hours?

• On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your ability to get along with people?

• Are you able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines?

• What sort of event management experience/exposure do you have?

But of course, these are not the only questions you will be asked. If you want to be successful at an interview, make sure that you have studied the position well – if you can possibly find out what exactly it is that a company is looking for in an event coordinator (through an internal source perhaps), no one can stop you from nailing that all-important interview!
