Entry Level Meter Reader Cover Letter No Experience

Updated on March 29, 2015

Cover letters need to drive home the key aspects of why you deem yourself a good choice for a certain job. The point of a cover letter is to emphasize your strengths in relation to the job that you are applying for. If you simply repeat the contents of your resume, it won’t do!

For an entry level meter reader position, you will have to rely solely on your skills and knowledge of the job, since relying on experience is not an option. While you do not specifically have to say that you are applying for an entry level job, it will become obvious as the employer reads your application. This is why it is important for you to rely on your skills entirely.

If you have gained some experience as an apprentice, be sure to mention it. Any knowledge that you have gained through experience in an apprenticeship position will come in handy when writing a cover letter. Your letter should open dramatically so that the reader’s interest is piqued – the more interesting the opening is, the better chances there are of a prospective employer reading the rest.

Mr. David Cole
Manager Human Resource
Xcel Energy
527 Rockwell Avenue
Chicago, IL 88992

Dear Mr. Cole:

A survey by American Utilities identified the top factors for choosing the right personnel in a multilayered utilities company. Technical accuracy and the ability to exercise independent judgment were number one, followed by physical dexterity and meter maintenance knowledge. As an individual who encompasses all this, I believe that I am the right candidate for a Meter Reader job at Xcel Energy.

Having recently passed out from the Core Utilities Training Program conducted by American Utilities, I am positive that I will be a credit to your company as I possess current knowledge of complex meters and the ability to use computerized handheld systems to gauge faults. With great insight into safety policies and procedures, I can accurately identify meter irregularities and perform some maintenance and repair duties as well.

As a native of Chicago, I have good working knowledge of the geographic area that Excel Energy works in which I believe will help me immensely as far as time saving is concerned. Confident that my skills set can be of significant value to you, I would like to have the opportunity to speak with you in person. I will follow up with you next week and can be reached at (000) 222-2222 if you need any further information from me.

Best Regards,

Harry Weston
