Cover letter writing is highly overrated – by this, we mean that a lot of people fear the process so much that they often end up not sending a cover letter with their resume. This is a resume killer.
Resumes need a cover letter to accompany them so that the information in them is complemented in a manner consistent with what the hiring authority is looking for.
Writing a cover letter is no big deal – if you have managed to understand the purpose of writing one, that is.
The main purpose of spending all that time and energy in creating a well-placed cover letter is to get a message across to the person who is responsible for giving you a job. When it is time for you to write one, make sure that you have the job advertisement (to which you are applying) in front of you, so that you can refer to it to determine what your main focus should be on.
