Cover letters can be great successes or terrible failures. It is up to you which direction they go in. The latter situation may transpire if the relevance of information in a cover letter is compromised.
You may end up writing a cover letter that the hiring manager does not want to see – or has seen the likes of millions of times before. Proving your worth to a hiring manager through a cover letter is not an easy thing to do, but since that is what the aim of a cover letter is, you have to try hard.
Technically, a Music Director cover letter is nothing more than a communication tool that is used to provide hiring managers with information on a job seeker’s abilities and strengths.
Each cover letter for Music Director position must be targeted and should stand out. Ordinary cover letters, written in the usual run of the mill manner are almost never accepted by hiring managers who want to read something “different”. Here is a sample to help you write one:

Mr. Johnathan Jackson
Human Resource Manager
109 Smith Avenue
Rossiter, PA 39273
Dear Mr. Jackson:
I have directed the work of popular bands and ensembles including The Shark Boys, Rage and the Tri Orchestra, which is why I believe that my diversity and talent in music direction will be of great credit to Radio One, if hired as a music director. If you look through my portfolio, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that I have worked with great names, and have a list of music compositions to my name that are melodious, and a great recipe for success in the musical world.
As a music director who has worked extensively in an international capacity, I am a good choice if you are in the market to hire someone who has diverse musical composition and direction abilities. My exposure to both eastern and western music, and a solid ability to acquire talented individuals as performers and soloist will be prove to be highly contributory to Radio One.
With my experience working in a studio environment, providing exceptional insight into compositions and lyrics development, I am usually the choice to be considered for international projects, requiring musical backing with a difference.
To provide you with some real time proof of my abilities as a music director, I would like to meet with you in person. I will call you next week to set up a meeting time. If you need to reach me in the interim, please feel free to contact me at (000) 524-8547.
