Urgent Care Technician Job Description
The main work of an urgent care technician is to facilitate patients’ flow into the hospital. This is a front-end job that requires an individual to receive patients and perform clerical duties to ensure that they are properly looked after by the facility.
To be considered eligible to work as an urgent care technician, it is important to possess a high school diploma or an equivalent. Previous experience of working in a clinical setting is considered a plus point. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a highly-charged environment are an absolute must. It is also important for an urgent care technician to possess good knowledge of infection control procedures and guidelines.
Technically, urgent care technicians ensure that registration processes are accurately completed and that all related activities are properly handled. - Complete registration processes for all inpatient and outpatient departments
- Respond to questions in person, and over the telephone
- Maintain working knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to registration and charge processes
- Perform clinical procedures including dressing applications, and changing splints
- Assist in receiving patients into the system by ensuring that all prior documentation is managed
- Document patient information according to protocols
- Perform medical support functions such as EKGs, specimen collection, and point of care testing
- Assist in the application of orthopedic devices, and correlating clinical procedures.
- Participate in the creation and implementation of treatment plans
- Monitor and maintain medical supplies inventory
- Coordinate patient flow to optimize throughput
- Observe patients and notify nurses or doctors in cases of distress or discomfort
- Maintain examination and treatment rooms, and clean equipment following established guidelines
- Ensure that medical examination and other equipment is properly calibrated and maintained
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge and practice of infection control procedures
- Make frequent rounds in the department to maintain tidiness and cleanliness
- Decontaminate rooms after patient discharge or completion of examination or treatment processes
