There is no denying the fact that skills are the primary force behind our success, especially if we are working as a radiology technician. While it is important to possess experience in radiology, skills help us in actually performing our work.
In our resumes and during interviews, we are highly tested on our ability to operate MRI and CT scan machines along with handling standard and complex x-ray machinery. Radiology technicians need to be well-conversant in determining the extent of injuries or diseases using specified machineries. To be able to do this, they are required to go through rigorous training modules.
Radiology technicians need to be responsible individuals as much depends on their diagnosis. If an imaging report is incorrect, it can have fatal consequences on a patient’s health so radiology technicians need to be very accurate and work with extreme care. Many complex imaging and diagnostics machineries are now being used to handle x-rays, MRIs and CT scans which is why it is very important for radiology technicians to keep up with technology and possess the ability to learn new tools and methods.
• Solid knowledge of diagnostic radiological procedures and their application on individual patients
• Track record of using radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment to determine patient conditions and advancement
• Familiar with image quality and radiations safety aimed at providing the highest quality of patient services
• Skilled in the use of PACS and associated imaging equipment
• Exceptional knowledge of operating x-ray and other digital imaging equipment to make radiographs of dedicated parts of the human anatomy
• Able to demonstrate high standards of film quality by critiquing positioning and alignment
• Skilled at determining patients’ conditions by employing knowledge of medical terminology and associated computer and electronics
• Verbal ability aimed at explaining complex radiology terms and procedures to patients and ensuring their comfort during procedures
• Knowledge of proper use of image receptors and radiation protection to effect safety and accuracy
• Able to perform specialized procedures for diagnosis and assistance in designing corresponding treatment
• Functional knowledge of performing venography, myelography and gastrointestinal examinations in accordance to each patient’s medical history and primary diagnosis
• Able to adhere to medical and surgical asepsis in accordance to standard precautions and rules set forth
• Special talent for developing imaging films quickly and accurately with a view to assist in diagnosis and treatment
• Good finger dexterity and arm / hand steadiness aimed at handling and operating sensitive imaging machinery in accordance to strict operational standards
• Methodical precision targeted at performing sensitive imaging scans and deriving copious information from them
