1. What made you decide that you wanted to work in a teaching capacity?
I am a great advocate of education, and this passion led me to pick up a position where I knew I would do well.
2. What have been your prime duties as a teaching assistant in an elementary school setting?
I have worked as a teaching assistant in an elementary school setting for 5 years now. My prime duties in this regard have been to provide instructional support to teachers, ensure that students understand and learn concepts taught to them, develop learning resources, and ensure that students gain benefit from them, ascertain that student behavior is kept positive, provide assistance to students with special needs, and assist in marking and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
3. Speaking of special needs, what is your experience as far as inclusion is concerned?
I have worked on many inclusion programs, the most recent one being the most complex one as well. This particular one required 12 students with special needs to be part of a mainstream class, in a strength of 20 students. The work was difficult and challenging, but along with the lead teacher, I made it successful.
4. What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire as a teaching assistant?
I am very hands-on when it comes to instructional support, and student management. Apart from this, I am great at imparting education and overseeing student behavior. Managing a crisis is my forte, as is the ability to provide individual and group support. In addition to this, I am extremely well-organized, which makes it easy for me to handle the day-to-day work assigned to a teaching assistant.
5. What is the most challenging part of working as a teaching assistant?
I believe that the entire work of a teaching assistant is challenging. But without challenges, the work tends to be a bit boring, which is why I welcome challenges with open arms.
6. What are your 5 year plans?
I intend to learn enough about the work to be able to work as a teacher in 5 years.
