Position Overview

A Patient Access Manager provides leadership over the day-to-day operations of the healthcare setting. They manage supervisory staff and ensure consistent high-quality performance.

As a Patient Access Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all activities within the patient access center are properly coordinated, monitored, tracked, and resolved. Also, you will be responsible for building relationships and partnering with stakeholders in the patient access center and across the functional areas to improve service delivery.

Besides that, you will be expected to maintain administrative responsibility for centralized scheduling, financial clearance, and price estimations.

Patient Access Manager Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the accuracy and completeness of daily hospital registrations by going through each form and entry.
• Greet patients as they approach for information purposes, and provide them with the required information on the services of the hospital.
• Manage staff development initiatives such as training, progress review, and communication of findings.
• Monitor all patient access processes in both inpatient and outpatient capacities, and ensure that all is in order.
• Oversee the work of patient registration and admission personnel to ensure that they are working in compliance with the protocol.
• Assist in the planning and development of capital expenditures, business objectives, and departmental goals.
• Assign work to different personnel based on their specific posts, and ensure that they work in an appropriate manner.
• Support the instruction of educational and training programs, aimed at promoting staff competency.
• Review the quality of patient registration documents and provide assistance in improving it where required.
• Work with hospital staff to optimize and standardize scheduling, check-in, check-out, and financial services activities.
• Monitor patient queues to ensure that workload is effectively managed by hospital staff members.

Patient Access Manager Qualifications

Usually, a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is considered sufficient to work as a patient access manager. If you have a degree in business administration or healthcare management, you will be considered a great individual to hire as a patient access manager.

The ability to adapt to an environment that fosters collaboration and teamwork and exceptional analytic ability are just two of the skills that you will need to be able to work in this position.

In addition to this, you will need to possess great oral and written communication skills and be able to decide what improvements are required for each specific area under your command.

Moreover, a patient access manager must be able to understand basic healthcare provisions and provide patients and families with education on what to expect from a procedure or appointment.
