Librarian Assistant Interview Questions and Answers

What made you decide that you wanted to work as part of a library?
I have always had a genuine love for books, and working in a library was just the most natural thing to do.

What duties have you performed in the role of a librarian assistant in the past?
As a librarian assistant, I have been actively involved in checking memberships, providing new patrons with their membership cards, checking books and resources in and out, ensuring that returned books are properly placed in their designated areas, and handling follow up duties. In addition to this, I have been involved in providing research assistance to patrons, and creating and maintaining effective liaison with vendors to ensure that new books are brought in, in a timely and efficient manner.

What is the one skill that you possess which you are very proud of?
Since I am a reader, I know most of what there is to know about books and authors, not just contemporary, but older ones as well. This makes it easy for me to help patrons in making picking choices, and to hold intelligent conversations with them.

What part of working as a librarian assistant do you find most challenging?
The work is great and the challenges are many. It is probably the follow-up part of working as a librarian assistant that I find most challenging, as people can be great hoarders where books are concerned!

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, where do you rate your skills as a librarian assistant?
I would give myself a realistic 8. There is so much that I still need to learn.

Where does this career line take you?
I am hoping to represent a library as a librarian soon. That is what I am training and aiming for.
