In most big organizations, there is an entire department dedicated to quality control, where several teams of quality control individuals make sure that all processes that a product goes through correlate with quality assurance guidelines. An important part of this department is a quality control inspector, whose main job is to make sure that all materials, supplies and procedures are in sync with quality assurance standards that have been set by the management.


A quality control inspector is required to possess a minimum of an associate’s degree in business, with a major in quality assurance, although some employers do not mind hiring someone with a high school diploma, who has had extensive experience in the area. But people who have a degree in the subject are more likely to know about exact processes and systems to use to ensure quality control at each level.

Working as a quality control inspector means that you have to be insightful and analytic. These two skills will help you determine the many different aspects of quality control and how to ensure them, making you a valuable employee. • Receive and check materials for conformity to established standards, while remaining within the limitations provided by the supervisor

• Inspect each received component one by one to ensure that it complies with set standards

• Provide seals of approval to approved items, procedures and end-products and ensure that approvals are properly documented

• Isolate items that do not comply and ensure that they are timely reported to the supervisor

• Communicate with vendors and suppliers to provide them with feedback on non-conformity to ensure that the next batch is of good quality

• Perform both visual and physical checks on processes and provide adjustments suggestions to workers

• Ascertain that inspection results are documents according to established protocols and procedures

• Oversee production lines to ensure that all quality standards are being met and intervene in situations where they are not being met

• Inspect end-products thoroughly to make sure that their quality is at par with set standards, and communicate any variances to the supervisor

• Create and submit detailed reports regarding each process’s success and failure, and provide recommendations for improvements
