Pick up any cover letter, and you will find yourself looking for the oomph factor. Cover letters that lack spice are disregarded almost as soon as they are picked up. Competition makes it difficult for us to create a cover letter that can be considered a masterpiece but in all honesty, this is not an impossibility!
The English language is vast and has such a vast combination of words that one can quickly write content that appeals to hiring managers.
The whole idea behind writing a cover letter is to make sure that one’s work prowess is accurately communicated to prospective employers. To do this, one needs to possess not only excellent language skills but also knowledge of the position that one is applying for – and both need to be part of a cover letter.
Once you have decided the tone of your cover letter, make sure that you keep it consistent. If you keep jumping from one idea to another, you will end up losing the hiring manager’s interest, who might regard you as confused. When you talk about an accomplishment, stick to talking about it only. When you wander your skills, do not mention your achievements in the process. And so on …

Dear Mr. Fox:
Challenges make me work more efficiently. And what is a better challenge than handling penetration testing for an information technology expert? Once hired as a penetration tester at General Dynamics, you will discover that I have much expertise to offer concerning social engineering tests, physical security reviews, and systems improvement.
While working for Blackbird Technologies, I was responsible for:
• Developing and implementing a password security protocol which made it virtually impossible for hackers to crack user passwords.
• Designing system and web penetration tests that worked at the core level, bringing results 20 times faster than conventional penetration testing.
• Implemented improved vulnerability assessments and developed automation scripts for replicating vulnerability validation.
These three (and more where these come from) can be reproduced for General Dynamics as well. Following unprecedented remediation procedures to ensure the company’s web and system security, I have an excellent knack for ensuring success.
If you are interested, let us meet in person next week. You can contact me at (888) 888-8888 for any further information that you may require.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
