A medical coder without experience does not mean a medical coder without skills. In fact, many skilled medical coders start at the very beginning.

If you are one of them, you have to show the hiring manager that you are exceptional at what you know – through the cover letter.

Writing a cover letter for a medical coder position will require you to possess knowledge of the work inside out. This means that training in this regard will be considered a plus point.

In your cover letter for a medical coder position, ensure that you emphasize your knowledge of reading and analyzing patient records, and determining the correct code for each record.

The ability to use codes for billing insurance providers and keeping track of patient data must be highlighted in your cover letter.

In addition, you should be able to tell the hiring manager that you understand confidentiality, and respect it.

Here is a cover letter sample for a medical coder resume with no experience:

Mr. Justin Rhodes
Human Resources Manager
Agilon Health
73 Lake Road
Bangor, ME 76009

Dear Mr. Rhodes:

I came across your advertisement in the newspaper for a medical coder position and would like to offer my services. I completed my medical coding training 2 months ago, and have since been looking for a suitable opportunity.

During the time that I was obtaining training, I learned a lot about medical coding and billing tasks. Extracting relevant information from patient records, and liaising with physicians to clarify information is something that I am well-versed in. Assigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and ASA codes is another area that I am exceptional at.

In addition, I possess an unmatched ability to assign the right codes to specific diagnoses, without any errors or issues. Since I am a perfectionist, I ensure that the completeness and accuracy of all entered data are ensured.

As an inherently thorough individual, I ensure that provider follow-up is given priority. Communicating with clinical staff members in order to make sure that information flow is ensured is my niche as well.

I will remain in touch with your office so that a mutually convenient time can be arranged for an interview. In the interim, I can be reached at (000) 637-8273 if you need any further information.

Thank you for considering my credentials for a Medical Coder job at Agilon Health.

Sincerely,

Gregory Perdu
