Residents of care homes need special care to live a dignified and healthy life. This need is often fulfilled by skilled people who provide direct care to them. Direct care may include a series of tasks ranging from regular everyday grooming to social and emotional support.

Members of direct care staff are trained in looking after residents who may not be able to perform activities of daily living.

Many care homes require that the people they hire as part of a direct care staff possess some background in providing direct care services.

However, the primary qualification requirement for this position is a high school diploma or a GED.
