• Engage patients in conversation to put their fears at bay, and to make them comfortable with the procedure.
• Take and record patients’ medical histories, and highlight any significant issues that may interfere with an anesthesia care plan.
• Perform assessments of each assigned patient, and document findings in his or her charts.
• Set up and calibrate anesthesia delivery systems, and assist anesthesiologists in administering anesthesia to patients.
• Monitor levels of anesthesia being delivered, and adjust them according to the requirements charted out by the anesthesiologist.
• Oversee the anesthesia delivery system to ensure that it is being conducted properly.
• Ascertain that patients are made comfortable during the entirety of the surgical procedure.
• Intervene in emergent situations, focusing on ensuring patient health and wellbeing.
• Oversee patients’ conditions and progress during the postoperative period, and communicate any significant observations to the anesthesiologist or the surgeon.
• Provide patients’ families with information on how to handle post-operative care.
