1. What makes you an excellent person to work as a community advocate?
I know my neighborhood well, and I am quite popular in it. In fact, I have been the “go-to” person for many problems that community members have had. They trust me, and I have delivered well during the past 5 years.
2. What do you expect to be doing in a community advocate role?
Since I have already been voluntarily working as a community advocate, I know the work. I expect to be handling community members’ problems such as health, mental wellness, economic and social needs, and environmental work.
My work would involve outreach and advocacy, ensuring that community members are provided with information and access to services that they require.
3. What skills do you think one needs in order to work as a community advocate?
I believe that one has to possess a plethora of skills to work as a community advocate. These would include:
• Communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to identify social, economic, cultural, physical, and environmental factors
• Leadership qualities
• Strong crises intervention skills
• Proficiency in prioritizing and handling multiple tasks under stressful conditions
4. Why would you want to take up a role which requires a lot of responsibility?
I am comfortable with this role because I do not focus on the burden of responsibility. Rather, my emphasis is on what I can contribute to ensuring the comfort and safety of community members.
5. On a scale of 1 to 10, where do you rate yourself?
Professionally, I would rate myself at an 8 and not higher, as I believe that there is always more to learn.
6. What are your future plans?
At this point in time, I intend to understand community outreach work in more depth. My near-future plan is to build a strong, and self-sufficient community.
