Position Overview
The main work of a tree trimmer is to trim trees. However, that is not all that he or she does.
As a tree trimmer, one has to perform many duties, such as pruning, planting, and watering.
There are no formal educational requirements to work as a tree trimmer. Mostly, you will be trained on the job.
But if you have previous experience, you will win brownie points with the recruiter.
As a tree trimmer, you will be performing a wide array of duties, for example, pest control and fertilizing.
Also, it will be your job to ensure that chemicals used for treatment purposes are used in a safe manner. In addition, a good skill set will be required to do justice to the job. You need to be physically fit and dexterous.
Furthermore, tree trimmers must possess knowledge of handling landscaping work. Sometimes, they work in accordance with landscaping artists.

• Inspect areas where trees and bushes need to be planted.
• Perform activities such as planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and bushes.
• Water plants and trees according to schedule.
• Cut and trim trees and bushes according to instructions.
• Mix and use appropriate chemical solutions in order to avert pests.
• Ensure that safety measures are taken into account when using pesticides.
• Cut dead trees, limbs, and excessive branches.
• Operate and use chainsaws and other tools to safely cut down limbs.
• Perform pruning activities.
• Trim and reshape treetops.
• Treat greenery with protective substances.
• Operate and use shredding and chipping equipment.
• Inspect trees in order to determine if they are diseased.
• Devise methods such as cleaning and pest control.
• Perform grounds maintenance work such as mowing, and raking.
• Clean and sharpen tools required for tree trimming purposes.
• Perform preventative as well as regular maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Climb trees by using hooks and belts in order to reach high branches.
• Collect debris from tree trimmings, and properly dispose of it.
• Load debris and refuse onto awaiting trucks.
• Perform fertilizing activities.
• Water and root-feed trees.
• Split wood logs according to instructions, and help load them in carriers.
• Perform brush-chipping and stump grinding activities.
• Maintain assigned tree nurseries.
• Create and maintain effective relationships with landscape artists.
• Ensure that supplies and equipment inventory is properly maintained.
• Inform supervisors in case of low stock situations.
