There are many instances where you might need a recommendation letter from a friend. You might be asked to get one when applying for a job, or a new landlord might require one.
In either case, you will need to contact a friend with whom you are close, and who can genuinely give you a recommendation.
It does not matter what your reasons for a recommendation letter are – any recommendation letter that you submit has to be positive.
For instance, your friend must not write that you have a weakness that you are presently working on. Don’t bother writing about weaknesses at all.
If you are a friend who has been asked to write a recommendation letter, you will need some information before you can write one. Ask your friend (for whom you are required to write one) what purpose it will serve. The next thing you need to know is what information your friend wants to make part of it. For instance, does he want you to concentrate on his or her skills, experience – or general character? You will need all this information to write a letter that will do justice to him or her.
The following sample letter of recommendation to help a friend obtain a job will suffice to help you write one for yours:
Sample Letter of Recommendation for a Friend
To Whom It May Concern
I am writing this letter to wholeheartedly recommend my friend, Samuel Johnson, for any position he may seek to fill. I have had the pleasure of knowing Samuel for over a decade; our paths crossed initially during our college years where we worked together on various academic and extracurricular projects.
Samuel is a person whose character and dedication to his goals have always stood out. Intelligent, diligent, and with a remarkable work ethic, he has continually impressed me and all others who have worked alongside him. His ability to analyze complex situations and develop feasible solutions is simply exceptional.
During the period between 2018 and 2022, Samuel and I collaborated on several initiatives, including community service programs and technology start-up projects. Through these experiences, I have seen him navigate challenges with strategic thinking and a positive attitude, all the while encouraging teamwork and collaboration among his peers.
Samuel’s interpersonal skills are commendable; he relates well with people from all walks of life and has a knack for effective communication. His leadership capabilities are evident in the way he inspires trust and confidence from his colleagues.
I am extremely confident that Samuel’s versatile skills and robust character will make him a valuable asset to your organization. Should you require further details or wish to discuss his attributes in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me.
