Letter of Recommendation for a Friend

Updated: April 11, 2018

There are many instances where you might need a recommendation letter from a friend. You might be asked to get one when applying for a job, or a new landlord might require one.

In either case, you will need to contact a friend with whom you are close, and who can genuinely give you a recommendation.

It does not matter what your reasons for a recommendation letter are – any recommendation letter that you submit has to be positive.

For instance, your friend must not write that you have a weakness that you are presently working on. Don’t bother writing about weaknesses at all.

If you are the friend who has been asked to write a recommendation letter, you will need some information before you can write one. Ask your friend (for whom you are required to write one) what purpose it will serve. The next thing you need to know is what information your friend wants to make part of it. For instance, does he want you to concentrate on his or her skills, or experience – or general character? You will need all this information to write a letter that will do justice to him or her.

The following sample letter of recommendation to help a friend obtain a job will suffice to help you write one for yours:

To Whom It May Concern

This letter is my personal recommendation for Lisa Trump. Lisa and I have been friends for 15 years, having first met in high school, where we shared a room in the hostel. Since then, she and I have been inseparable, as we seem to get along exceptionally well. For this, I would give the credit to Lisa, as she is a flexible individual, who does not believe in domination to get her work done. Instead, she outlines why she thinks something is good enough (or not).

Between 2013 and 2017, Lisa and I worked together on several projects, and I discovered a new side to her personality. She is extremely insightful where her work is concerned, and goes to great lengths to get her job done professionally. With her, it seems that one is always on the same page, as she is a real leader. Possessing a pleasant personality and a kind nature, make it impossible for people not to be charmed by her. During one specific problem at work, she managed to show her work prowess and leadership skills with such neatness, that the entire team was in awe of her.

I believe that Lisa will be a great credit to your organization, in her preferred line of work. I give her my full recommendation. Should you need any additional information, please don’t hesitate to call or text me.

Sincere regards,
