  • Confer with homeowners to determine their home cleaning and maintenance requirements.
  • Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, and ensuring that all surfaces are properly disinfected.
  • Vacuum curtains, rugs, and carpets, and ensure that they are properly washed on a periodic basis.
  • Handle kitchen cleaning and sanitization processes, ensuring that all utensils and equipment are properly washed, dried, and maintained.
  • Wash and sanitize bathrooms, ensuring that proper and safe methods for both are followed.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, shampoo, and towels in bathrooms and powder rooms.
  • Make beds on a daily basis and change bed linen as per client-specified schedules.
  • Remove trash from rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen areas, and ensure that it is properly and safely disposed of.
  • Dust furniture, and polish all wooden and brass pieces on a periodic basis, as per homeowners’ instructions.
  • Ensure that cleaning and maintenance supplies inventory is properly maintained, communicating low stock levels to homeowners.
  • Assist homeowners in looking after the young and elderly household members of the family.
  • Run errands such as shopping for groceries, and paying utility bills.
Home Housekeeper Education Requirements

Typically, a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is sufficient to work as a home housekeeper. If you have had prior experience in cleaning homes (or even general cleaning exposure), you will be considered a great contender to hire at this position.

Home Housekeeper Skills & Abilities

Since this work is physically demanding, it is imperative that you are physically fit and agile, and that you have the capacity to work for long hours, on your feet. Also, it is important for home housekeepers to possess deep knowledge of cleaning and sanitation procedures, as they apply to households.
