Salary Calculator: Hourly, Monthly and Take-Home Pay

Updated on: November 4, 2026

To turn a yearly salary into an hourly rate, divide it by 2,080, the hours in a full-time year.

For example, a $60,000 salary is about $28.85 an hour, $5,000 a month and $2,308 every two weeks before taxes. After estimated 2026 federal and payroll taxes, a single filer with no state tax takes home about $50,390 a year, or $1,938.08 per biweekly paycheck.

How to Calculate Salary by Hour, Week and Month

  1. Hourly: divide your yearly salary by 2,080 for a full-time job, or by your real yearly hours.
  2. Weekly: divide by 52.
  3. Biweekly: divide by 26.
  4. Semi-monthly: divide by 24.
  5. Monthly: divide by 12.

If you work more or fewer than 40 hours a week, enter your real hours in the calculator so the hourly figure matches your actual pay.

How Take-Home Pay Is Estimated

Your take-home pay is your salary minus federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, any state income tax and pre-tax deductions such as a 401(k).

  • Federal income tax. The calculator subtracts the 2026 standard deduction ($16,100 for single filers, $32,200 for married filing jointly), then applies the brackets below.
  • Social Security. Employees pay 6.2% on wages up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500.
  • Medicare. Employees pay 1.45% on all wages, plus 0.9% on wages above $200,000.
  • State tax. States tax differently, so the calculator uses the flat rate you enter. Some states have no income tax.

2026 Federal Income Tax Brackets

Tax rate Single (taxable income) Married filing jointly (taxable income)
10% $0 to $12,400 $0 to $24,800
12% $12,400 to $50,400 $24,800 to $100,800
22% $50,400 to $105,700 $100,800 to $211,400
24% $105,700 to $201,775 $211,400 to $403,550
32% $201,775 to $256,225 $403,550 to $512,450
35% $256,225 to $640,600 $512,450 to $768,700
37% Over $640,600 Over $768,700

Only the income inside each bracket is taxed at that rate. Tax credits and other deductions can lower your bill, and they are not included in this estimate.

Average U.S. Pay for Comparison

  • Median weekly earnings: $1,232 for full-time wage and salary workers in the third quarter of 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over 52 weeks, that is about $64,064 a year.
  • Average hourly earnings: $37.81 for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls in September 2026, up 3.0% over 12 months, according to BLS.

These are broad averages across many jobs, so use them as a rough guide, not a target for your own pay.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Treating gross pay as take-home pay. Taxes and deductions come out first.
  • Dividing by the wrong hours. If you work 45 hours a week, dividing by 2,080 overstates your hourly pay.
  • Ignoring state tax. It can change take-home pay by a few percent.
  • Forgetting benefits costs. Health insurance premiums lower your paycheck.
  • Comparing offers on salary alone. Bonuses, benefits and time off change what an offer is worth.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your yearly salary by the hours you work in a year. For a full-time job that is 2,080 hours, which is 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. For example, $60,000 divided by 2,080 is about $28.85 an hour.

How much is a $60,000 salary per month?

A $60,000 salary is $5,000 a month before taxes. After estimated 2026 federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare for a single filer with no state tax, take-home pay is about $4,199 a month.

How much is a $60,000 salary biweekly?

Before taxes, $60,000 divided by 26 paychecks is about $2,308. After estimated federal and payroll taxes for a single filer with no state tax, it is about $1,938 per paycheck.

How is take-home pay estimated?

The calculator subtracts the standard deduction from your salary, applies the 2026 federal tax brackets, then adds Social Security tax (6.2% up to $184,500) and Medicare tax (1.45%). It also subtracts any state tax rate and pre-tax 401(k) amount you enter.

Why is my paycheck different from the estimate?

Your real paycheck can include health insurance, other pre-tax benefits, local taxes, tax credits, extra withholding and a different state tax. Use the estimate for planning and check your pay stub for exact numbers.

Does a 401(k) contribution change my taxes?

A pre-tax 401(k) contribution lowers the income that is taxed for federal and most state income tax. It does not lower Social Security or Medicare tax, which are based on your full pay.

What is the Social Security wage base for 2026?

The 2026 Social Security wage base is $184,500. Employees pay 6.2% on wages up to that amount. Medicare tax is 1.45% on all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000.

Which tax year does this calculator use?

It uses the 2026 federal tax brackets and standard deductions announced by the IRS, along with 2026 payroll tax figures. Update the page when new brackets are released for the next year.

Is a salary calculator the same as an hourly to salary calculator?

They overlap, but the starting number differs. A salary calculator starts with your yearly pay and shows hourly, monthly and take-home pay. An hourly to salary calculator starts with your hourly rate and shows your yearly pay.

Is this calculator financial or tax advice?

No. It gives an estimate from the numbers you enter. For exact numbers, check your pay stub, your employer’s payroll system or a tax professional.

Conclusion

A salary tells you the yearly number, and the hourly rate and take-home pay show what it means for your life. Enter your details in the calculator, add your state tax and 401(k), and compare the result with your pay stub or a new offer.
