Position Overview

The primary work of a furniture mover is to pack and move not just furniture but also other items.

He or she is required to load and unload items to and from delivery trucks.

However, this is not all that he or she does. Working as a furniture mover involves performing many tasks such as padding and stacking items, and ensuring their security within delivery trucks.

Position Requirements

Usually, a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is sufficient to work as a furniture mover. Of course, previous experience in this regard is appreciated.

As a furniture mover, physical strength and dexterity will be expected. Also, it is required that you know and follow DMS safety regulations.

While a furniture mover’s job does not sound too difficult, it is a lot of hard work. Since one has to perform physically demanding work, it is important to be strong.

As a furniture mover, you will be expected to know how to assemble and disassemble furniture as well.

• Engage customers in conversation to determine their specific moving requirements.

• Inspect furniture as well as other items that need to be packed and moved.

• Provide customers with cost information.

• Have costs approved by customers.

• Obtain information such as timelines and destinations.

• Dismantle furniture pieces and place them in appropriate places.

• Wrap and pack each item carefully.

• Choose the right type of wrapping for each item.

• Load trucks with furniture and other packed items.

• Place items correctly on trucks in order to ensure safe transit.

• Provide wayfinding assistance to drivers.

• Unload items at destinations.

• Assist customers by transporting items to their houses and offices.

• Unwrapped and unpackaged furniture items, and placed them in the right places.

• Create and maintain inventories of items.

• Handle any issues immediately.

• Provide customers with bills, and obtain payments through cash or checks.

• Use specialized equipment for example dollies and forklifts to move heavy furniture items.

• Contact dispatchers in order to provide them with pickup and drop off information.

• Create information logs such as delivery times and payments.

• Respond to customers’ inquiries regarding delivery timelines and item safety.

• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of assigned trucks.

• Assist in navigation to city destinations as well as intercity ones.
