Working as a warehouse laborer or worker requires much in terms of physical dexterity and knowledge of the way in which warehouse work is performed.
Warehouse laborers are usually the sole point of contact where order-picking is concerned. It is their job to read and understand orders and ensure that the right item is located in the storage area, and packed for shipment.
A high school diploma or a GED equivalent is usually sufficient to work as a warehouse laborer. If you have worked in this capacity before, you will be considered a great choice to hire at this position. Knowledge of inventory management systems and a profound ability to handle picking and packing activities is an absolute must in this role.
In some instances, you may also be required to operate forklifts, for which you will need a license as well. As a warehouse laborer, you will need to be exceptionally well-versed in handling a wide variety of tasks, including the proper way to locate an item, and effectively packing and labeling it.
If you have not worked in this capacity before, you may be hired as an apprentice and provided with all the training that you need to work successfully in this regard.

• Receive orders from supervisors, to pick orders, and determine their locations within the warehouse.
• Locate order items within the storage areas, by following storage maps, and beeping devices.
• Pick orders and check them for conformity to ensure that the right quality of the product has been picked up.
• Transport orders to the checking area, using hand and forklifts, depending on the type and size of the item.
• Check items to ensure that they are in good working order, and ensure that they are properly labeled, with the correct information.
• Transport picked and labeled items to the delivery pallet, and assist loaders in loading them onto awaiting delivery truck.
• Ascertain that loaded items are properly, and safely stacked within the delivery vehicle.
• Prepare to correlate paperwork for all outgoing shipments, according to provided specifications.
• Ensure that all paperwork is sent along with every outgoing shipment.
• Receive incoming shipments, and check correlating papers to ensure the right type and quantity has been received.
• Stack incoming items in their specified areas, by using hands, or making use of forklifts, especially for heavy or large items.
