Thank You Letter for Donation to Hospital

Updated on: August 15, 2021

Donations are challenging to come by; but, if you have been lucky enough to obtain one, you should show your gratefulness by writing a thank you letter to the donor.

Writing a thank you letter is not only the right thing to do professionally, but it also paves the way for further dealings with the donor.

Let us take an example here. If you represent a hospital for which you have recently acquired a donation, the first thing that you need to do is to show your appreciation to the person/organization that made it possible for a new hospital wing to be added or new machinery to be bought.

A donation is technically a gift, and the organization will have put in much thought before issuing the money to you.

In your letter, appreciate the thought and kindness that went into the issuance of money to your hospital.

Anybody can say a simple thank you and be done with it – it is your job to strive for originality and write something poignant which will have a lasting effect on the person reading your letter.

Your thank you letter should look something like this:

Dear Mr. Landon:

On behalf of Yale Cancer Hospital, I would like to thank you for your generosity in donating $52,000 for the purchase of equipment and hospital amenities. Without your help, we would not have been able to buy the MRI and CT scan machines that are vital in detecting cancers and tumors – a feat that we specialize in.

Each year, Yale Cancer Hospital continues to add new blood to its medical staff, and each year, we count on you to help us acquire sophisticated equipment for our new doctors to work on. You have never disappointed us, and we truthfully declare that you are solely responsible for a vast number of cancer survivors treated at our hospital.

To show our appreciation, we are holding a lunch in your honor on Monday at The Marquee on Paten Road, at 1 pm. We will be grateful if you would join us and give us the opportunity to thank you in person.

Thank you once again for your generous support. We look forward to maintaining a liaison with you.

Kind regards,

Marian Tulsa
