Position Overview

A mechanical technician is an individual who has received extensive training in handling mechanical support and maintenance duties within his or her outlined scope of work.

These individuals make sure that all planned maintenance tasks including those that have been scheduled or come on emergency basis, are managed efficiently and accurately.

Working as a mechanical technician means that you have to know what compliance issues may transpire, and then ensure that they are handled effectively.

Typically, a mechanical technician repairs and maintains a variety of equipment, such as engines, transmissions, and high-pressure pumps, and is also responsible for making sure that all processes are performed in a safe manner.

Job Requirements

A high school diploma or a GED is sufficient to work as a mechanical technician, but you will need some experience in the form of an apprenticeship before you can be considered eligible for this position.

In addition to this, you must have it in you to be able to perform physically demanding work and work on a rotating shift.

• Assess mechanical and electronic equipment to determine issues and ensure that apppriate protocols are followed to resolve problems

• Repair mechanical systems by first isolating complex problems and then determining ways to troubleshoot them

• Perform both preventative and regular maintenance work on assigned mechanical systems to ensure that they work efficiently and to minimize chances of breakdown and downtime

• Install or/and repair components required to run mechanical systems properly to ensure minimum downtime

• Test all equipment for proper operations and ensure that it is properly calibrated before it is due to be used

• Assist machine operators in understanding machine functions and procedures to ensure that they can perform their work efficiently

• Create reports on machine malfunctions and ensure that they are timely submitted to supervisors

• Oversee inventory of required components, parts, and supplies for repairing and maintaining mechanical systems

• Ascertain work compliances to standards, tolerances, and fits, and ensure that all practices are in sync with sound engineering standards and protocols

• Test equipment for proper operations and install new or reconditioned parts to mechanical systems

• Maintain, diagnose and repair a vast variety of equipment such as diesel engines, transmissions, winches, and high-pressure pumps

• Test and recheck all repairs to ensure that they are in accordance with factory specifications and protocols
