What motivated you to pick up a career in environment management?
I have always had great respect for nature, which was my initial reason for enrolling myself in a related degree program. Once I was done with the academic bit, I did not have an ounce of doubt in my mind about wanting to work in this arena. It all just came so naturally.

What type of duties have you performed in the role of an environmental technician?
Gathering samples of soil and groundwater, testing samples to determine toxicity levels, providing suggestions and recommendations to reduce both at a large level, and ensuring that all compliance metrics are met have been part of my daily work as an environmental technician.

What type of skills do you think are important to possess if one wants to work at this position?
I believe that knowing environmental hazards and how to counter them is one of the main areas that one needs to be proficient in. Additionally, it is imperative for someone working as an environmental technician to possess deep knowledge of using the tools and equipment of the trade in a safe manner, and to have exceptional insight into the various compliance methods and procedures that need to be taken into account.

What is the one thing that you look out for when performing work in the field?
Self-safety and that of my team is of great concern for me when I am working onsite. I make sure that all protective gear is worn and that safety protocols and procedures are appropriately followed.

Have you ever faced a work-related hazard?
As a matter of fact, things have been quite under control since the time I actively began working as an environmental technician, as I do not leave room for problems of this sort.

As far as environmental work is concerned, what are your long term plans?
I am working hard to devise effective and immediate solutions to reduce toxicity levels in a certain piece of land that is considered barren. It is a long and arduous process and I hope to overcome this limitation to vegetation growth soon. At this time, this is all I’m focused on!
