1. What motivated you to work as a youth specialist?

I have been interested in doing something for the community for as long as I can remember. It was this inherent will that made me decide that I wanted to work as a youth specialist. And there has been no looking back since then.

2. What skills do you possess which make you an excellent person to hire as a youth specialist?

I am multi-talented where my work is concerned. Not only do I know the different ways in which children and young adults need to be handled, but I can also handle crisis situations.

Additionally, I am well-versed in creating and implementing individualized plans to meet residents’ specific emotional and psychological needs. Also, I am proficient in facilitating the orientation of youth newly assigned to the facility.

3. How do you handle the apparent stress related to this work?

I must admit that it was a bit difficult handling the emotional part of this work. However, I have trained myself over the years, which means that I don’t get emotionally involved. As far as stress is concerned, keeping my priorities right, and staying detached help.

4. How do you feel about working in a position where you face challenges on a daily basis?

I thrive in a challenging environment. Working without challenge translates into demotivation for me.

5. What is the one duty that you find most challenging?

The work, on the whole, is challenging. However, I find crisis management most challenging, as one never knows the outcome.

6. What are your 5-year career plans?

I was to eventually work in a supervisory role.

7. And what are you doing to make sure that you reach this goal?

I am moving slowly and steadily. I am training to find my way up to that of a manager eventually.
