Sample Email for Sending Cover Letter and Resume

Updated on: September 19, 2022

Gone are the days when cover letters and resumes were sent out sealed in envelopes, addressed to the recipient, and put into the mailbox.

While some people still do this – especially when hiring managers require them to specifically send cover letters and resumes in a “paper form” – mostly, these job application documents are sent through an email.

One would have thought that it will be easy to just attach the required documents and hit the send button, but that is not how it happens.

Some people do not mind sending out their documents without writing anything in the email.

In actuality, this is perceived with distaste. You must write something in the email to connect with a hiring manager.

It doesn’t have to be anything too detailed, but something that can pass off as a courtesy.

The body of the email must never be left empty.

Even if you write two lines (well, two lines are not really recommended), you must say why you are sending the email in the first place.

The format of an email of this sort is not too confusing or complicated.

Once you have addressed the email properly, choose a befitting subject line.

It could be something as simple as Reference: Advertisement in The Daily Ads.

If the advertisement has stated that you write something specific like the designation that you are applying for, write what is requested. And this is what the email should be like:
