I am a compassionate person by nature, and that is what makes a successful nurse primarily. I have had quite a lot of experience working as a volunteer for the local hospital, and that is where I discovered that this should be my vocation. With an inborn will to make a difference in the lives of people who are unwell, I believe that nothing can stop me from being successful in this role.
What kind of experiences have you had with nurses in the past? Are you satisfied with how this system works in this country?
Since I have performed voluntary functions in hospitals, I have come across many different types of nurses. While some of them were true to the spirit of this position, many were not. I have seen nurses being rude to patients. A patient will only come to a hospital when he or she is unwell and does not need aggression brought on by a nurse’s inability to remain calm. The system needs improvement. I believe the screening process when hiring a nurse is as essential as the training itself.
How important do you think communication skills are for a nurse?
Extremely so! A nurse cannot do her job correctly if she cannot communicate effectively. Figuring out what a patient may need in terms of medication and care, describing the same to a doctor or head nurse and then understanding instructions on how to deal with the situation all follow the ability to communicate well.
