2 Nanny Reference Letter Samples (+Writing Guide)

Nannies are responsible for looking after newborns, toddlers, and young children especially when the parents or guardians are busy or out of work. They provide both child care and educational services for children depending on their place of work.

When a nanny is hired, she is screened quite carefully because children’s well-being is of the utmost importance. This concern of parents or agencies is one of the primary reasons an employer will ask for a reference letter when hiring someone for a nanny position.

Typically a “to whom it may concern” letter, a reference letter is critical if you want a prospective employer to look favorably at your candidacy for a nanny job.

A reference letter is not just a formality – it serves a higher purpose. That said, it provides prospective employers with information about your personality and ability to work with children.

Writing a reference letter also serves as an appreciation for the nanny who has worked diligently for you.

The content of nanny reference letters needs to be positive as their primary purpose is to give prospective employers an additional reason to choose candidates for a particular job.

To Whom It May Concern

I am writing this letter to recommend Helen Mirren for a nanny position at ABC Company. Helen has worked for me for eight years and has helped me raise my three children. Owing to her exceptional work ethic and childcare talents, I feel confident that she will contribute significantly to your team.

Throughout the time she has worked for me, she was recognized as a dedicated and dependable individual. Helen came to work for me when my daughter (now 8) was a few months old and stayed on to look after my other children. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to be flexible, yet maintain discipline – something which is not very easy to do.

Helen knows both childcare and housekeeping work exceptionally well. She can devote the same amount of time to all my children for their nourishment. I have never come across any complaints from them. She doesn’t take days off and is never late to work. Her multitasking abilities are above par – I have seen her helping my eldest with her homework while bottle-feeding my two-year-old. She always behaves and reacts professionally, even in adverse situations.

As a friendly and fun individual, she will be able to provide excellent mentorship to your children. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information regarding her abilities.

Sincerely,

Kris Tobery

To Whom It May Concern

It is a great pleasure to recommend Felicity Canne for a nanny position. Felicity has served as a full-time Nanny for my three-year-old girl ever since she was three months old. I employed several nannies before I settled for Felicity as I have found her extremely dependable. I must say I am blessed to have had her all these years.

Felicity is an incredibly patient and amicable individual. She has been quite a role model to my daughter and has put up with her temper tantrums during the terrible twos! The time she was ill, Felicity stayed up with her all night comforting her while I slept because I had work the next day. Since I keep long and busy hours, she has been kind enough to take my daughter to doctors’ appointments and playgrounds.

Felicity was recommended to me by a trusted friend, and I have never had to worry when leaving my daughter alone with her. I am unfortunate to see her go but I understand that she needs to move to a bigger city to pursue her dreams and recommend her heartily for a similar position as I am confident that she will do wonders for any child under her care.

Sincere regards,

Carolyn Carter
