6 Common Asset Protection Manager Interview Questions and Answers

1. What does asset protection mean to you?

Having worked as an asset protection manager for 9 years now, the concept of protecting a company’s assets is almost religious to me. I take this work very seriously, as I believe that a safe company is a successful one.

2. As an asset protection manager, what have been some of your prime duties in your present role?

While working as an asset protection manager, I have been responsible for many duties, including detecting, deterring, investigating, and resolving violations of company policies, driving the execution of operational procedures to minimize shrinkage and risks of damage, managing compliance procedures to adhere to both company and federal standards, modeling, enforcing, and providing direction to associates on appropriate asset management techniques, and ensuring that facility assets are secured and safeguarded properly.

3. What skills do you believe are necessary to work as an asset protection manager?

To be able to truly do justice to this work, it is imperative for an individual to be exceptionally well-versed in retail theft investigation work, possess excellent analytic skills, deep knowledge of handling conflict resolution, and the ability to use and monitor surveillance equipment.

4. What in your opinion is the toughest thing about working as an asset protection manager?

I believe that the work is challenging from all angles. There is no one part of it that is tougher than the other.

5. Give us a brief account of an incident that required you to give it your best shot.

I was once faced with quite a dilemma where constant inventory shrinkage led me to investigate a top management employee. There was very little evidence to prove that the individual under suspicion was indeed the person who “did it”. It took all that I had to delve deep into situations, incidents, and motives to figure out how it all started and to prove that the suspect was indeed the culprit.

6. If you were hired at our organization, what is the first thing that you will change?

In order to be able to change anything, I will first need to look through your asset management strategies and procedures. However, the first thing that I will do is to determine how well the company’s strategies have been implemented, and if there are any issues, I will identify them, and suggest alternatives.
