A licensed practical nurse interview is the final step of your job hunting process.

In order to succeed in an interview, you will need to prepare well before the interview.

Here are 9 sample interview questions and answers to help you be prepared.

Licensed Practical Nurse Interview Questions and Answers

1. Why did you choose the nursing profession?

I volunteered at a homeless shelter after high school just to gain some experience. Although I worked as a volunteer kitchen helper, I closely saw some nurses working with sick persons at the shelter.

I was awed by the way they touched their lives with compassion. That’s where I drew my inspiration from and decided to pursue a formal career in nursing.

2. What is your biggest strength as an LPN?

The ability to communicate medical information effectively to patients and their families who are unfamiliar with medical terminology is my biggest strength.

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In the next five years, I see myself placed somewhere in the nursing administration section within your hospital’s personnel management department

4. How would you deal with a demanding patient?

I am a compassionate and understanding person, and I know that patients are sometimes agitated and worried because of their illness or any other personal reason. I never let a patient’s behavior or rudeness affect the quality of patient care I deliver. No matter how rude they are, I maintain a patient-oriented attitude and try to relive and facilitate the patients as much as possible.

5. Do you prefer working in a team or independently?

In the medical profession, things go best when done in a team. The more collaboration is there, the better the results. I always prefer working in a group; however, I am fully capable of working independently as well.

6. What would you do if you have done a 12 hours shift and your replacement does not show up?

I would wait until my replacement shows up. If they have some problem, I will contact the management to arrange an alternative and stay until the person shows up for the shift.

7. What are the routine procedures a practice nurse is required to carry out?

Routine procedures include drawing blood samples, administering IV and oral medicines, explaining the treatment chart, dressing wounds, and collecting urine samples for lab testing.

8. What would you do if you saw a colleague mistreating a patient?

I am usually very cooperative with my colleagues, but in cases where the hospital policy is being breached in any manner, I always speak up. I would inform the administration of any misconduct witnessed on the part of any colleague.

9. What challenges do you think nursing faces as a profession?

I believe like other medical professions, the most significant challenge is the rapidly growing nurse to patient ratio. While an ideal ratio is only 1:15, sometimes a single nurse has to cater to up to 40 patients which compromises the quality of patient care delivered.
