What to Include in a Lifeguard Resume?

When you are applying for a lifeguard position, it is imperative to create a solid resume. This will ensure that your resume gets read and that you are called for an interview immediately. The problem with this is that it seems like an ideal situation, which is not always possible to achieve.

However, with the right resume format, you can apply for a lifeguard position, knowing that an interview call is coming. The first thing that you need to do is to check the job description for this position. Then, pick out a resume format that is friendly to read.

Once these two things are done, it is pretty much smooth-sailing. Filling out different sections in your lifeguard resume needs a lot of focus though. And it is up to you to gather the right information for each part.

Summary Statement

A lifeguard must highlight what he or she offers in the role – in a short paragraph marking the beginning of the resume. Here, it is important to focus on your knowledge of effectively overseeing activities at an aquatic facility, such as a pool, or a beach.

Ability to assist with swimming lessons, enforcing rules and regulations, and monitoring designated areas in order to ensure people’s safety should all be part of your lifeguard resume summary.

Core Competencies

Competency in areas such as rescue and safety enforcement is required by hiring managers looking to hire lifeguards. In this section of your resume, you must highlight the several areas that you qualify in. These could be:

  • First Aid and CPR
  • Safety Assurance
  • Rescue
  • Emergency Response

There are others that you can mention as well. Give information of at least 5-10 competency areas in this section.

Selected Achievements

Your achievements in a lifeguard role define you as a person of great interest to a hiring manager. Focus on past accomplishments, such as the time when you saved someone’s life.

Professional Work Experience

Experienced lifeguards are great resources for hiring managers, as it saves them the hassle and cost of training and development. Highlighting your past experience in this role is important. This is the section where your work duties need to be listed. Even if you have worked as a lifeguard voluntarily, mention your duties here.

Education and Certification

There are no formal educational requirements to work as a lifeguard. So, you can put in your last diploma or GED equivalent here. However, you must offer information about your lifeguard certification status.
