Overview
A stage performer is an individual who acts and/or dances on the stage, promoting a certain performing art or an amalgamation of many. Stage performers come under the broader category of actors and entertainers, although most of them do not perform for films.
Requirements
To work as a stage performer, you do not need any formal education, although a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is required so that you can read and understand scripts and instructions. Working at this position is very hard work, as pleasing an audience is not everyone’s cup of tea. People working as stage performers are always at the mercy of criticism, which they must take positively.
The hard work of performing on stage requires one to be knowledgeable about the different art forms (especially those that one needs to perform in). This may include acting, dancing, and singing. It is only if you have an inherent love for performing arts that you can actually do justice to the stage.
There is one more category within which your work might fall, depending on your inherent interest, or the opportunity you get.
A stage performer may also do narrations for plays and musicals. This is a great way of understanding the many other areas that you can eventually work in, in a stage performance capacity.

• Confer with directors and writers to determine performance storylines, and understand themes.
• Look through the script to determine role requirements, and study the road thoroughly by researching origins and behavior.
• Act out provided role, in a bid to practice and understand the role deeply.
• Coordinate with other stage performers to ensure that all acting, singing, or dancing activities are properly synched.
• Engage audience by acting out provided part/role in an appropriate and profound manner.
• Deliver dialogues with great clarity, ensuring that the audience remains engaged, and understands dialogue delivery.
• Assist other actors and performers when they forget their lines by prompting them according to established protocol.
• Assist in the setup of stages, by instructing stagehands in the right way of placing props.
• Provide assistance in recreating plays and musicals, by suggesting changes and modifications.
• Look over costumes to determine suitability for stage performances, and provide suggestions for design alterations.
• Attend and perform at events such as dramas, festivals, and good causes, aimed at providing entertainment, and assistance in collecting funds.
