1. Why did you opt to choose tailoring as a profession since there are so many others that you could have chosen from?
During the course of my degree in fashion design, I realized that tailoring was where my talent was most prominent. And since I believe that one should do things where one is obviously talented, this is the line that I took up.
2. Do you think that it is necessary for tailors to possess knowledge of fashion design?
Absolutely! I believe that a tailor needs to know everything there is to know about designing garments if he or she wants designs and cuts to be properly managed.
3. As a tailor, what are some of the main duties that you have performed?
Conferring with customers to determine their specific design, cut, and style requirements, providing suggestions to help them understand what style suits them best, assisting customers in choosing fabric and embellishments, taking and recording measurements, managing garment fittings and alterations, cutting and styling garments, assembling and stitching parts of garments using needles, threads and sewing equipment, and maintaining relationships with vendors and suppliers are some of the duties that I have performed as a tailor in the past.
4. What are the 3 skills that you deem absolutely necessary when working as a tailor?
I believe that it is important to understand garment designs and styles. In addition to this, one must be able to research trends in the market and possess an exceptional ability to handle measurements and fittings.
5. What has been your greatest achievement so far?
I was recently commissioned to create an entire clothing line for a popular brand. My articles were sold out shortly after they hit the shelves, making it a great achievement for me.
6. What are your long-term future plans?
I am working hard to learn all there is to know about the fashion and tailoring work, hoping to eventually own/run a tailoring/fashion house.
