3. As a patient escort, what are some of the main duties that you have been responsible for over the years?
While working as a patient escort, I have been escorting patients to and from appointments, surgical and nursing units, and procedural rooms. In addition to this, I have been ensuring their well-being and safety by making sure that their transit is safe and placing their fears at rest by counseling them. Also, I have been responsible for making sure that the equipment that is used to transport patients is kept cleaned and sanitized at all times.
4. What skills do you think one needs in order to work as a patient escort?
Working as a patient escort means that you have to be physically dexterous and strong, possess great communication skills, have deep knowledge of medical terminology, can handle emergent situations with ease, and possess an exceptional ability to handle crises situations.
5. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where any of these skills came in handy?
Several times. Recently, I was transporting a patient to a cardiac unit when he had a sudden heart attack. My good sense kicked in, helping me to provide immediate CPR to him, saving his life.
6. What are your future plans?
I hope to train as a nursing assistant soon, a future that I am already working towards by enrolling into a nursing program, and learning the basics through my time at work.
