• Inspect assigned buildings and surrounding areas to ensure that they are safe from fire and other threats.

• Ensure that all fire and safety protocols are followed, and provide visitors with information of the same.

• Oversee the work of personnel to ensure that they are not indulging in any hazardous activities.

• Educate personnel in the safe use of equipment and tools to ensure that hazards are minimized.

• Handle access control, ensuring that visiting individuals are not carrying potentially dangerous items.

• Investigate cases of fire breakouts, and develop theories on incidents, and how to ensure that they do not transpire again.

• Ensure that all fire alarms are properly installed, and are in good working order at all times.

• Provide training to personnel and newly hired fire guards to ensure that they are all on the same page.

• Handle emergency situations associated with fire, by making appropriate use of fire extinguishers, and other dousing methods, approved by the organization.

Fire Guard Job Qualifications

To work as a fire guard, you do not need more than a high school diploma or a GED equivalent, as far as formal education goes. However, a fire safety certification may be required by some organizations.

If working as a fire guard is what you want to do, you will need to possess a plethora of skills to be able to do justice to this job. Your job will not only be to handle fires if they break out, but also to make sure that they do not break out in the first place.

As far as skills are concerned, a fire guard will need to possess a greatly analytic mind, along with the ability to sense things. Exceptional investigation skills and a core ability to ensure that emergencies are handled in a quick manner is something that is necessary for this work.

Working as s fire guard is not everyone’s cup of tea. There is a lot of responsibility involved, and you have to make sure that you come out on top every time.
