Manicurists and pedicurists perform personal grooming services for both men and women.

When a salon wants to hire one, it needs to ensure that the right person is being interviewed.

During the Manicurist and Pedicurist Interview process, you will be asked many questions to help the interviewer determine your suitability for the job.

These may include finding out how much you know about both these processes, and the tools and instruments of the trade.

You will need to project your best customer service abilities as it is important to satisfy your clients if you want repeat business.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I have been working as a manicurist/pedicurist for 10 years. Initially, I began working as a salon assistant but quickly realized that my interest was high in performing manicure and pedicures. I quickly learned the art, and have been working in this arena since then.

2. What specific duties have you performed in the role of a manicurist/pedicurist?

While working in this role, my duties involve determining clients’ specific manicure and pedicure requirements and helping them choose the right types of treatments for their hands and feet. In addition, I am responsible for discussing nail treatments, and performing tasks such as removing nail polishes, trimming and filing nails, and removing dead skin. Also, my work involves massaging hands and feet and performing nail art activities.

3. What are some of the skills that you depend highly on in order to work successfully?

I am a service-oriented individual, who makes sure that customers are provided with the right mix of high-quality services. I am also careful and thorough. Apart from these qualities, I possess the ability to perform consistent services that are in sync with their beauty goals.

4. What do you like most about this work?

There is a lot to learn when you’re working as a manicurist/pedicurist. You get to meet new people every day. I love both these things about my work.

5. What do you dislike most about this work?

I love my work from every end. I do not dislike anything about it. It is fun and engaging.

6. What is the most difficult part about working as a manicurist/pedicurist?

I believe that difficulty basically depends on how well you conduct yourself. There are so many ways in which one can make one’s work easy. I don’t find anything difficult about this work.

7. How do you handle the challenges associated with your work?

I thrive on challenges and welcome them with open arms. When a challenging situation is thrown at me, I make the best of it by understanding what needs to be done, and calmly doing it.

8. How do you handle adversity at the workplace?

Adversity is not something new to me. It comes from clients, coworkers, and even supervisors at times. I am a professional individual who doesn’t pay much attention to adverse situations unless they negatively impact my work. I keep my head down, and I strive to achieve my own goals, and those of the salon as best as I can.

9. What is your greatest strength?

My greatest strength is my ability to perform high-quality work even when all is not in my favor.

10. What is your biggest weakness?

I have often felt that I give more than is expected of me. I am constantly striving to provide excellent customer services, and put in extra time at the salon quite often. This makes “me” time almost nonexistent.

11. How would you react if a client got angry with you?

I would calmly listen to what made them angry, and then do my best to resolve the issue in as little time as possible.

12. How good are your time management skills?

I would say that my time management is excellent. I make sure that I begin and end my work on time, and do not like delays.

13. How would you handle a strict supervisor?

I believe that in order to keep discipline, and a high standard of services, strict supervision is required. I don’t mind it one bit.

14. How do you handle micromanagement?

I feel that there are times that micromanagement is required when one is working in personal services. However, too much of it can become uncomfortable, making a worker feel insignificant, and eventually negatively impacting their work.

15. Have you ever dealt with an irate client?

Many times. If there is one thing that I know about working in a salon, it is the fact that you cannot make everyone happy. Irate clients are all part of the game.

16. How do you manage them?

I am an inherently calm individual and do not react when a client is being reasonable. My strategy is to hear them out and then resolve their issue as best as possible.

17. What is your take on sanitization?

With the way things are, and even before this, I have always taken sanitization of workplaces, tools, and equipment used for manicures and pedicures very seriously. I clean and disinfect everything, and discard what cannot be sanitized.

18. Apart from manicures and pedicures, what other salon services are you well-versed in?

I am excellent at performing all salon services, including massages, facials, haircuts, and even makeup.

19. Why did you choose to work as a manicurist/pedicurist?

Since I had performed all the salon services, I knew where I was most interested. And manicures and pedicures are areas where my expertise is most profound.

20. How would you react if a client complained that your services were not up to the mark?

I would apologize first, and then try to determine where my services were lacking. I would then make sure that I correct whatever went wrong so that a similar complaint does not transpire.

21. If we hire you, when can you join us?

I will need to give a 30-days’ notice to my current employer, after which I will be free to join you.

22. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Eventually, I would like to work in a managerial capacity to oversee a team.
