Position Overview
A furniture delivery driver may either be hired by companies that make and sell furniture, or by moving companies. In either of these cases, it is the job of a furniture delivery driver to make sure that the furniture entrusted to him or her is safely delivered to the customer, in a timely manner.
Position Requirements
Typically, a high school diploma or a GED equivalent is sufficient to work as a furniture delivery driver. However, if you have had prior experience driving a truck for delivery purposes, you may stand a better chance at obtaining this position with an organization.
Eligibility criteria to work at this position also includes a valid driver’s license, knowledge of federal DOT regulations, and experience in driving both large and small trucks. As a furniture delivery driver, you will be expected to perform a lot of pre-trip activities, including checking assigned trucks for problems or issues, and ensuring that all issues are resolved. Additionally, an employer would want you to know all there is to know about regular and preventative maintenance of the truck, so that there is no downtime, and deliveries are not delayed.
Working as a furniture delivery driver means that you will be on your toes most of the day – rather, on the road! You will need to possess great insight about map routing, and local areas as well. Furniture Delivery Driver Duties and Responsibilities
• Take and comprehend delivery orders, and determine prioritizing of delivery tasks.
• Perform pre-trip inspections on assigned trucks to ensure that they are in good working order.
• Ascertain that all fluids are up to par, and that tire pressures are properly maintained.
• Assist loaders in loading furniture onto delivery trucks, ensuring that they are properly stacked and safely secured.
• Map short and efficient routes using both the GPS and standard maps, to ensure timely deliveries.
• Drive assigned trucks on predetermined routes, ensuring that priority lists are adhered to.
• Unload furniture at destinations, and provide customers with information on assembling it.
• Provide customers with paperwork related to their deliveries, including warranty documents.
• Receive and log payments from customers and issue receipts according to specifications provided by the company.
• Communicate with the office dispatch unit to provide them with information on completed deliveries.
• Perform both preventative and regular maintenance on assigned vehicles, to ensure that they remain in good working order.
