As the title indicates, a messenger is someone who delivers messages.

On a broader level, messengers work in different environments where they are required to transport packages, mail, and other items from one place to another.

It may seem simple enough, but the work of a messenger is difficult as there is a tremendous amount of responsibility attached to it and a lot of traveling involved.

Messengers deliver documents and packages safely and confidentially.

Their destination may be within the company that they are working for, an area, a city, or even an entire state or country.

Depending on the type of message or package being delivered, messengers essentially work on a predefined schedule.

Most companies take the services of a messenger to deliver documents and messages because this source is efficient and fast.

It may take days or hours for a courier to the company to deliver mail – and there is a lot of documentation involved too – while a messenger can do this in a short period.

Many companies that have a constant need to deliver packages hire messengers on a permanent basis.

• Determine destinations by referring to addresses on packages and documents
• Ensure that packages or messages are delivered in a time-efficient manner
• Handle packages and documents with care, especially ones that are marked “fragile.”
• Ensure that packages are ready for delivery by packing them in a safe manner
• Drive the delivery truck to the destination
• Ensure that the delivery is done on time
• Reconcile packages at the recipient’s location
• Maintain communication with destination and point of departure through radio or cell phone
• Ensure the highest degree of security of shipment
• Take the recipient’s signature on the receipt and compare it with the original signature on the identification card
• Understand privacy rules and not tamper with packages or document
• Maintain records of daily visits in the logbook
• Sort deliverable items in accordance with the delivery route in order to ensure maximum efficiency
• Confirm deliveries by checking into the office after each delivery
• Open and sort incoming mail and deliver it to appropriate recipients within the office
• Collect and seal outgoing mail and ensure that proper stamps are used
• Load and unload goods from trucks and delivery vans
• Plan efficient routes prior to setting out on a delivery mission
• Use telephones to deliver verbal messages
• Take COD (cash on delivery) where appropriate and deposit cash into the bank as instructed before the delivery
