6 Common Deputy Clerk Interview Questions and Answers

1. What specific duties have you performed in the role of a deputy clerk in the past?

As a deputy clerk, I have been responsible for preparing and submitting legal documents, handling correspondence and motions, completing court-related forms, including petitions and warrants, collecting payments such as fines and court fees, swearing in juries, calling in witnesses, marking evidence exhibits and providing assistance in preparing trial dockets.

2. What type of skill set does a deputy clerk need in order to work successfully in this role?

Knowledge of the legal system, specifically related to court proceedings and administration, ability to schedule cases according to established protocol, the capability of preparing and reviewing legal documents, insight into handling inquiries from the general public and law enforcement agencies, and ability to prepare financial reports as they associate with courts, are all required skills of a deputy clerk.

3. Are the work of a deputy clerk and a law clerk the same?

While some work may overlap since both work in more or less the same capacity, their roles are definitely different. A legal clerk is usually assigned to an attorney and provides assistance with research and administrative work. A deputy clerk works for the state or federal court and provides administrative and clerical support to all parties involved in a proceeding or trial.

4. What is the most difficult part of working as a deputy clerk in your opinion?

To be honest, I do not find working as a deputy clerk difficult on any level. I enjoy doing my work and whatever challenges come my way, I overcome them through sheer wit.

5. What is the one thing that you really like about this work?

There is no monotony in working as a deputy clerk. While the work is the same almost every day, each new case brings a different facet of human nature, which I find fascinating.

6. As far as evidence handling is concerned, how qualified are you?

Extremely. Since I have worked as a deputy clerk for over 8 years now, I know exactly how to carefully manage evidence so that it is marked properly and placed in a safe area before it is to be presented.
