Position Overview
The primary work of a sign maker is to create signs, from concept to the actual making part.
A sign maker does not need more than a high school diploma or a GED equivalent to be eligible. However, prior experience counts a lot.
In fact, a sign maker needs to be well-versed in many areas, such as the design, manufacture, and installation of signs.
Customer service abilities need to be exceptionally well-placed while working as a sign maker. Moreover, you must be detail-oriented so that you can provide the exact design that the customer has asked for.
In addition, a sign maker must be well-versed in using tools and equipment related to sign making.
If you are an experienced sign maker, you may be asked to supervise other less skilled sign makers. That is why your leadership skills must be excellent.

Sign Maker Duties and Responsibilities
• Confer with clients in order to determine their specific sign-making requirements.
• Provide clients with information on designs and sizes.
• Generate customers’ concepts and ideas into graphics.
• Ensure that colors and tones are in accordance with clients’ requirements.
• Perform duties such as hand lettering and symbol creation.
• Design and fabricate signs to correct metrics such as shape, size, and color.
• Adjust color and shape or size issues in order to keep within outlined requirements.
• Estimate costs of designing and printing.
• Provide cost and design information to clients.
• Perform sign-making activities by using the right tools and equipment.
• Salvage old and damaged signs using shears, corner cutters, and punch presses.
• Ensure that the right amount and color of paint.
• Perform fabrication duties.
• Follow layouts to place computer-generated images on predetermined surfaces.
• Prepare substrates for application purposes.
• Perform finishing activities such as laminating, encapsulating, and mounting.
• Check inventory levels in order to ensure optimal supplies and resources.
• Store raw materials according to the procedure.
• Move raw materials and sheets for manufacturing.
• Ensure that machinery and tools used in making signs are appropriately maintained.
• Perform graphics application duties on various platforms.
• Ensure that signs are correctly and safely installed.
• Perform custom layouts for silk screen processes.
• Create and maintain liaison with vendors in order to obtain prompt service.
