Employment gaps can be terrifying when applying for a new job.

Writing a cover letter to apply for a job when you haven’t worked for a while can be a daunting experience.

However, you can easily explain employment gaps when you have taken a hiatus/break from work.

Gaps on resumes are red flags for most employers – unless your cover letter can explain what you had been doing when you weren’t working, your resume may not be accepted.

There is a way to get around this. If you have been unwell, and that is why you haven’t worked, you can mention as much. In such a case, it is important to write a cover letter to tell the hiring manager that you kept in touch with the type of work that you are applying for. This will tell the hiring manager that you have not lost all your skills and can be a good choice to hire after all.

After this, it is important to highlight that the situation that you were going through has ended and that you are now ready to take on the work as well as you did earlier.

You have to show your enthusiasm about the work so that the hiring manager can effectively understand that you are eager to join and contribute to the organization.

In addition to this, you have to remain honest. Do not lie about why you decided to take a break. With information on everyone’s fingertips nowadays, many employers perform background checks in order to ensure that an applicant is telling the truth. Make sure that whatever you write in your cover letter correlates with your background.
