Administrative Assistant Reference Letter Sample

Updated on: May 13, 2022

In order to write an effective Administrative Assistant reference letter, it is important to spend some time with the person to whom you are writing it for.

By talking to the individual, you will perceive how he or she intends to work in the future and what his or her career aspirations are.

If you have been asked to write a reference letter, it is obvious that you know the person quite well already, but it still helps to interview him or her to determine what their plans are and where they intend to apply.

For a reference letter written for an administrative assistant position, some questions that you might want to ask yourself include:

  1. How long have you known the candidate?
  2. In what capacity do you know him or her?
  3. What are his or her administrative skills and competence in administration?
  4. Is he or she someone who takes the initiative?
  5. Does he or she have leadership qualities?
  6. What is the candidate’s attitude towards work?

When writing a reference or recommendation letter for an administrative assistant, refrain from making any reference to their religion, race, or gender.

If you have any reservations about writing something for a candidate (or the reference letter on the whole), it is a good idea to discuss your reservations with the candidate.

To Whom It May Concern

I am writing to recommend Andy Cooper as an Administrative Assistant at ABC Company. He was one of the most dedicated administrative professionals at Engineering Consulting Services.

Andy was hired as an intern in May 2015, climbed the ladder of success, and became an administrative assistant after 6 months. Andy’s clerical and secretarial acumen is a real treasure from which our company has benefited for many years.

Before his joining, we were merely far behind as far as technology was concerned. Soon after he was hired, he introduced and implemented a digital filing and email system that not only reduced the time of handling professional communications but also made things much easier for other employees of the company. His knowledge of administrative systems work has been a real asset to us. As a leader, he is invincible as he can take the initiative and delegate work to just the right people and knows how to follow up effectively.

In short, Andy’s high caliber and deep administrative expertise set him well above others. I genuinely recommend him for an administrative position at your company. If you need further information regarding Andy, please feel free to call or email me.

Sincerely,

Justine Brown
