Maintenance assistants work under the supervision of a director of maintenance within a company.

Their primary duty includes assisting the director in handling routine maintenance activities. This may consist of managing minor repairs such as faulty window latches, tank toilets, and changing light bulbs.

On a broader scale, a maintenance assistant ensures the overall security of a building and the equipment within.

They may receive maintenance requests every day and must strive to fulfill each request.

It is essential for these professionals to possess knowledge of tools and equipment that is particular to the maintenance arena and have knowledge of safe practices.

• Assist in carrying out ongoing preventative maintenance programs

• Schedule regular maintenance activities

• Review work order priorities on a daily basis and ensure that they are serviced each day

• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing bulbs and repairing doors/windows

• Ensure that the facility is in a safe condition by employing investigative techniques

• Inspect vacated areas for signs of tampering or disrepair and ensure that all repairs are carried out immediately
