Resignation Letter for School Teacher (Sample & Format)

Updated on: June 29, 2022

An essential official letter that school teachers write at least a few times in their careers is a resignation letter. Resignation letters are often difficult to write.

We may desire to leave a job due to personal or professional reasons – pleasant ones or not pleasant ones – but we need to write positive resignation letters no matter what the reason is. That can become difficult to put into words. But if we need to leave a job, there is no other way to do it but through writing a resignation letter.

Format of Resignation Letter for School Teacher

A school teacher resignation letter should follow a proper format. It also needs to be addressed to the concerned person, i.e., a member of the human resource department or a manager.

The first paragraph of a resignation letter needs to provide information about your intent to leave the job

Second paragraph details why you need to go and some niceties about how “you learned much while working in the position” or the like of it.

The last paragraph is a final goodbye where you can ask for your leaving documents.

The following example of a resignation letter may provide you with information on what format to follow when writing a resignation letter for the position of a school teacher.

Dear Mr. Williams:

Please consider this letter as formal resignation from my position as School Teacher (Mathematics) for Howard High School. As detailed in my contract, I am providing a 30-day notice of my intent to leave. My last working day will be July 28.

Due to the extreme financial pressure that I have been facing owing to rising house rents in Massachusetts, I find it difficult to make ends meet. I voiced my concerns to you some months ago, and I had been researching information on other states where the cost of living may not be as high as it is here. After much deliberation, I have concluded that Cleveland, Tennessee is where I need to be right now if I want to pursue a career in teaching and ensure that I can save up as well.

While I am excited at the prospect of a new beginning, it makes me sad to leave the school that has given me precious experience over the last three years. I have learned all that I know about teaching methods and curriculum development from my work at Howard High School, and I am eternally grateful for this experience. Had circumstances been slightly different, I would not have thought of leaving. I am very thankful for the time that you spent training me, and I hope to make you proud of me.

I would appreciate it if you expedite my leaving documents (experience and reference letters particularly) and arrange for my salary to be handed over to me on the day I leave.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
