Cover letters for guest service positions are required to possess a lot of energy; if you can make a guest happy, there is no better employee than you. However, convincing an employer that you are a good guest service employee is not easy. This is why it is very important that when you apply for a job in a hotel, your cover letter speaks volumes for your abilities.
Let us take the example of a night porter’s position. Night porters provide services to guests during the night. This may include cleaning, stocking beverage areas or tidying the reception area. They may act as doormen and even ensure that the exterior of the building is kept clean. Night porters are also expected to greet guests arriving at night and to direct them to the right contact person. Additionally, they may be expected to assist the janitorial staff with cleaning stairways, emptying wastebaskets, washing windows and setting up tables and chairs for guests.

Dear Mr. Thomas:
I have been working in the hospitality industry for almost a decade now and consider myself an ace at providing exceptional guest services. I am positive that you will find my resume interesting as it backs up my claim of providing outstanding guest services throughout my career. Utilizing the benefit of this experience, I would like to apply for the position of a night porter at Mount Hope Hotel.
I love working at nights which is why working during the night would be natural for me. I possess a sound knowledge of hotel regulations and able to effectively utilize guest history profiles to provide the best in guest services at all times. From welcoming guests, as they arrive, to providing them in-room services, I perform each activity with precision and hard work. Believing in the cliché that the first impression is the last impression, I strive extremely hard to ensure that the hotel premise is clean and tidy at all times – even if I need to physically clean and mop myself!
I am a people-focused person which is the reason behind my success in converting guests into regular clients. While idle chit chat is not something I believe in, I confer extensively with guests to determine their needs and to fulfill them in a timely and efficient manner. This has helped me become a “favorite night porter” for many of the hotel’s patrons who ask for me specifically when they arrive.
I will call your office at the end of this week to ask for an interview so I can further elaborate on my claims. Thank you for your time in reviewing my application credentials. I look forward to meeting you in person soon.
