Sample Letter of Recommendation for Legal Intern

Updated on: June 30, 2023

Law students who have completed legal internships are often asked by their professors to provide a recommendation letter for their internship report.

A teacher or direct supervisor writes recommendation letters in cases like this.

A reference letter can have a significant impact on the overall evaluation of the Legal Interns.

If you have been asked to write a letter of recommendation for a legal intern who has been your student or worked under your wing, you will need to know exactly what goes into it.

Since you have had the opportunity of evaluating the intern’s work firsthand, it is your responsibility to provide honest feedback. But of course, if there is something negative that you have in mind, hold on to your thoughts as a recommendation letter cannot be negative!

A recommendation letter written for a legal intern should hold information on how well the intern knows about the legal world (terminology, precedence, etc.) and how he has been able to use this information during case preparation.

You can also highlight the intern’s attributes such as the ability to take instructions and get along with his peers and exceptional communication skills – all of these are extremely important in this role.

To Whom It May Concern

Through this letter, I’d like to recommend Forsyth Jones who has worked as a legal intern with Attorneys Galore, to endorse his contribution to the office. As an attorney and Forsyth’s immediate supervisor, I have had the opportunity to watch his work from a critical angle, and it is a pleasure to admit that he has proved his worth.

Forsyth is an insightful individual who has a strong grasp of the legal matters of the state. On his first day at work, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he knew most of the workings of an attorney’s office. He took charge of things immediately and helped organize case files in a compact manner, which left a lot of space for other paperwork. He also introduced us to the beauty of searching for precedents online which saved much time on important cases.

As an individual, Forsyth is communicative and hardworking and has the ability to mingle with witnesses and accused to determine their motivations. On two occasions, this has helped us immensely in successfully closing cases that were in limbo for a long time.

I wish him the best of luck in completing his law degree and anticipate working with him again.

Regards,
